Repair Windows 10 Image - Dism windows 10

With time, your windows 10 image may become unstable.
To fix this problem, Microsoft has built a set of commands that helps rebuilt errors that are causing problems in your operating system image.

As usual, before starting any repairs on your pc, take a backup of your whole hard drive by following this tutorial:

Please follow the below steps to repair your windows 10 image:

1 - Get a 4 gigs(or more) usb stick and create a windows 10 installation media by going here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Click on "Download Tool Now" and execute the file. You will download a whole image of Windows 10 and the creation tool will install it directly on your usb stick. This may take a bit of time.

2 - Make sure your usb stick is still plugged in, go to your windows 10 search bar(bottom left of the screen) and type "cmd". When the cmd icon shows, right click it and select "Run as Administrator".

3 - Type in the black windows command screen (Dism windows 10) this:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:esd:H:\sources\install.esd

Press "enter" and wait for the repair to start, it will take time, possibly hours.

The "H:\sources\install.esd" path means that our USB stick had a volume called "H" and the install.esd file was location at H:\sources\install.esd

Your usb drive might have a different name "F:,E:,D:,I:...etc".

If you see the repair stuck at around 20-22%, don't panic, this is normal and you will have to wait.

Here is a list of a few more commands:

dism /online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase
sfc /scannow

Always run the SFC /scannow command at the end to make sure everything is fine with your Windows 10 operating system.
